America Ferrera Continues Her 'Barbie' Celebrations at the 2024 People's Choice Awards
At Sunday's glittering 2024 People's Choice Awards, America Ferrera, age 39, was all smiles as she accepted the award for movie performance of the year, presented by Billie Eilish. With a touch of humor, Ferrera quipped that her main reason for attending was the chance to strike up a friendship with the "What Was I Made For?" artist.
"I'm genuinely here in the hopes of becoming besties with Billie Eilish. So, Billie, are we doing this?" she playfully asked.
Ferrera then warmly expressed, "A huge thank you goes out to everyone who cast their vote for me and for 'Barbie.' Whether you caught the movie in cinemas once or returned for a whopping 20 viewings, I'm looking at you, yes you — your enthusiasm and your pink-attired squad outings have meant the world."
Taking a moment, Ferrera also acknowledged the creative forces behind the film, "A special shoutout to the unparalleled Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie," for their roles as director and lead, respectively. "A massive round of applause for Greta and Margot for entrusting me with the honor of reflecting all of humanity in Barbie Land," she added with gratitude. "I truly hope I lived up to your expectations."
Ferrera reflected on her experience, describing it as "a once-in-a-lifetime chance to contribute to such a daring and motivational gem. To deliver lines that spoke a profound truth many of us yearned to hear," she remarked during her acceptance speech. She highlighted that 'Barbie' serves as "a call to each of us to celebrate our individuality, to recognize our own unique, magnificent, and utterly human selves."
