Cher 'Will Have Some Words to Say' at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction After All
Cher has had a change of heart regarding her attendance at the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Despite her previous declarations that she wouldn’t go, the legendary pop star, 77, will now be present and ready to speak at the event this October.
During a December episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cher made it clear that she had no intention of attending the Hall of Fame, even stating she wouldn’t change her mind for a million dollars. "They can just go you-know-what themselves," she had remarked, emphasizing her firm stance.
However, in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight on May 13, Cher revealed she will indeed participate in the ceremony set for October 19. She attributed her change of heart to the influence of music producer David Geffen and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Chairman John Sykes. “Well, I can thank David Geffen, my friend and the most wonderful person ever, and John Sykes,” Cher said.
The pop icon added, “I'm gonna have some words to say. I'm gonna accept it in my Cher — as me,” signaling that her speech is likely to be memorable and authentically her.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced the nominees for the 2024 induction on April 22. Alongside Cher, first-time nominees include Foreigner, Mariah Carey, Eric B. & Rakim, Jane’s Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinead O’Connor, and Sade. The performer category will feature artists such as Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, and A Tribe Called Quest.
The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland and will be broadcast live on October 19.
