Eric Trump has shared details about his father, Donald Trump's, condition following an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pa. Speaking to CBS Mornings, Eric clarified that the former president did not require stitches despite bleeding from his ear, describing the injury as a "nice flesh wound" and "the greatest earache he's ever had."
"He was millimeters away from having his life expunged," Eric remarked, reflecting on the close call during the incident. "I'm sure the ear doesn't feel well," he added somberly.
In a separate interview with CBS Evening News, Eric emphasized Donald Trump's resilience, confirming that he can still hear and remains in high spirits. Reflecting on the shooter's accuracy, Eric noted his familiarity with shooting sports and expressed gratitude that the outcome wasn't more severe.
"I'm not an overly mushy person," Eric stated, "but somebody was watching down on him because it could have gone very, very differently."
The assassination attempt occurred on July 13, when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire at the rally. Donald Trump later described the experience as "very surreal," recounting the moment he felt the bullet or shrapnel pierce his ear.
Addressing the incident on Truth Social, Trump conveyed astonishment at surviving the ordeal, quoting medical personnel who termed it a "miracle" that he wasn't fatally wounded.
During the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Donald Trump appeared with a visible bandage over his injured ear alongside his running mate J.D. Vance, underscoring his continued presence in the political arena despite the harrowing events.
The shooting also injured three bystanders, tragically resulting in the death of Corey Comperatore and critical injuries to David Dutch and James Copenhaver. Authorities continue to investigate the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack.
