Drake is weathering the storm—literally. The Canadian rapper, 37, took to Instagram on July 16 to share footage of his mansion flooding amid severe weather in Toronto. Despite the unfortunate situation, Drake managed to keep his sense of humor intact.
“This better be Espresso Martini,” Drake captioned a video on his Instagram Stories, showcasing muddy floodwaters pouring into his home. In the clip, an unidentified person dressed in black is seen struggling to close French doors against the rushing water. Drake pans the camera down to his feet, revealing that he is standing in water up to his mid-calves, holding a broom to divert the flood.
The video did not disclose the exact location, but Toronto has been facing heavy rainfall and flooding. According to the Toronto Star, Environment Canada lifted its heavy rainfall warning for the city and the Greater Toronto Area on July 15, but not before the downpours had caused significant disruptions, including impacting the city's subway system. The weather agency warned, “Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.”
The intense rain is expected to subside soon, with most of the severe weather clearing before the weekend.
Drake's Toronto mansion, famously known as "The Embassy," was showcased in Architectural Digest in 2020. Describing his home, Drake emphasized its monumental scale and timelessness. The custom 50,000-square-foot property, designed by Ferris Rafauli, boasts luxurious features such as a 21-square-foot pyramidal skylight above an NBA regulation-size indoor basketball court, a great room with 44-foot ceilings, a bespoke concert grand piano, and a chandelier originally designed for the Metropolitan Opera in New York City in 1963.
Despite the grandeur, Drake's favorite part of his mansion is his 3,200-square-foot bedroom suite. “The bedroom is where I come to decompress from the world at the end of the night and where I open my eyes to seize the day,” Drake shared. The suite includes an additional 1,100 square feet of covered terraces, a floating bed, a thought-gathering shower, and a closet designed to inspire self-reflection while dressing.
Drake's Instagram post of his flooded mansion quickly sparked reactions on social media, with fans and followers expressing concern and sending well-wishes. As Toronto recovers from the recent severe weather, Drake's lighthearted approach serves as a reminder of resilience and humor even in challenging times.
