Explore the captivating exhibition "Ukhamba" by artist and architect Germane Barnes, presented by MOAD. As the second installment in a series of annual commissioned MOAD Pavilions, "Ukhamba" invites visitors to experience a unique fusion of art and architecture at MDC Wolfson Campus and MDC North Campus.
About the Installation: "Ukhamba" is a ten-foot-tall circular structure featuring four arched entrances, constructed from curved wooden elements stacked in horizontal layers. This innovative pavilion serves as a space for contemplation and congregation, offering visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in its captivating design while enjoying views of the surrounding urban landscape. Inspired by Barnes's experiences in South Africa and Miami, "Ukhamba" reflects on the appropriation of African influences in Western architecture, blending elements of traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.
