The Game of Thrones alum, 27, was photographed leaving the New York City apartment she's been staying in, owned by friend Taylor Swift. Turner was seen exiting the apartment with her lawyer, dressed down in blue jeans and a zip-up hoodie.
Jonas, 34, was later seen arriving at the New York City legal office, looking casual in white jeans and sunglasses. The former couple will spend the next four days in intense mediation aimed at resolving custody issues and establishing a parenting plan.
On Tuesday, lawyers for the estranged couple announced that the two would partake in a four-day mediation that was set to begin the following day.
Although Judge Katherine Polk Failla set a Jan. 2 trial date, the mediation aims to solve many of Turner and Jonas' custody issues. In court on Tuesday, Turner's lawyer Stephen Cullen claimed that Jonas is asking for joint custody, saying that "what he was looking for is a 50-50."
The mediation comes after Turner sued her estranged husband for wrongful retention, alleging that Jonas was withholding their passports and not allowing them to return to England. The complaint against the musician called for "the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained," with Turner's legal team asserting the "wrongful retention" began on Sept. 20.
Shortly after Turner filed her complaint, Jonas released a statement disputing her claims and saying that he believed the two had reached an agreement to work on a co-parenting plan.
The interim consent order states that Turner and Jonas were ordered to keep their kids in the Southern and Eastern districts of New York, which includes New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley.
Jonas and Turner tied the knot in 2019 after nearly three years of dating. At the time of their split, each posted a joint statement to their social media accounts that announced the end of their four-year marriage.
“Statement from the two of us: 'After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,' ” they both shared on Instagram.
“There are many speculative narratives as to why, but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children,' " the statement concluded.
