In a turn of events for Twitch star Kai Cenat, Manhattan prosecutors have decided to drop all charges related to an incident last year where a promotional event unexpectedly turned into a riot in New York City’s Union Square. The 22-year-old streamer, known for his significant online following, was initially charged with inciting a riot and unlawful assembly.

The decision to forgo prosecution came after Cenat agreed to several conditions laid out by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. These included issuing a public apology and making restitution payments totaling over $57,000, shared between him and two associates, Denzel Dennis and Muktar Din.

The disturbance occurred on August 4, 2023, when Cenat announced a giveaway event on social media, promising high-demand items like PlayStation 5s, computers, and gaming accessories. The announcement drew thousands of fans to Union Square, leading to overcrowded conditions and injuries to several police officers during the ensuing chaos. The event resulted in the arrest of 60 individuals, including 30 minors.

Following the incident, Cenat expressed remorse through a Snapchat apology, stating his intentions were initially to create a fun and engaging experience for his followers. He acknowledged the unintended consequences of his event, stressing the lessons learned about the influence and responsibilities that come with his platform.

In addition to his apology, Cenat personally paid $55,000 to the Union Square Partnership, Inc., which represents local business owners affected by the event. His associates, Dennis and Din, contributed $1,049.50 each towards the restitution.

This resolution allows Cenat to avoid further legal complications, underscoring the responsibilities influencers face when orchestrating large-scale public events.
