Various Show Times Dive into the iconic musical Cabaret, a collaborative effort between the Arsht Center and Zoetic Stage, featured in the 2023-24 Theater Up Close series lineup. This engagement, running from March 14 to April 7 on selected dates, brings to life a script by Joe Masteroff, rooted in John Van Druten’s play and Christopher Isherwood’s narratives, with John Kander providing the musical score.

Set in the shadowy corners of Berlin in the late 1920s, Cabaret introduces audiences to an enigmatic master of ceremonies at the infamous Cabaret, offering a refuge from the outside world. The emcee's seductively satirical performances provide a sharp critique of the societal dynamics of Berlin as it teeters on the brink of the Third Reich's ascendancy. The story weaves through the experiences of Cliff, an American author captivated by the British songstress Sally Bowles, and Fräulein Schneider, the owner of the boarding house where Cliff and Sally reside, who becomes romantically involved with Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor. Standout songs such as "Willkommen," "Cabaret," "Don't Tell Mama," and "Two Ladies" punctuate this compelling narrative.
